Karnala Fort and Bird Sanctuary

Karnala is a protected wildlife park situated on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra, approximately 50 km from Mumbai. Karnala is a tiny sanctuary which is barely 4.8 sq km. It is situated in the mountain range of the Western Ghats and is surrounded by several hills and it is a trekker's paradise.

Karnala Bird Sanctuary is located at the bottom of Karnala fort which is a paradise for bird watchers.

Karnala Fort

Karnala Fort was constructed during the 13th century. Karnala Fort engulfs a steep rock in the middle of greenish surroundings. The doorway of the fort is adorned with many carvings of elephants and tigers. Water reservoirs are developed naturally in the rocks.
